Color Club Foxy Mama

Hey y'all!  Today I have another beauty from the Poptastic collection that Color Club released last summer.  This was another one that I managed to snag while shopping after the Atlanta Nail Meetup back in April.  I used to hate oranges, and still do....unless it's nail polish (or eyeshadow because it looks good with my blue eyes).  This is no exception.

If you like orange, and NEON orange, this is your gal.  It's that BRIGHT orange cream with a golden shimmer.

color club poptastic foxy mama review swatches

I only needed 2 coats and it dries kinda matte so it definitely needs a top coat.

I wore this on my toes for a month straight because I didn't want to change it.  Even with my pale skin, and my feet are whiter than everything else, it looked great.

What are your favorite orange polishes?

Funky Fingers The Notebook

Hey y'all!  I was recently looking over my basket of untrieds thinking that I needed to work with some of them and this is one I picked to layer over something else.  Funky Fingers polishes are found at Five Below and this was put in my stocking this past Christmas. I can't remember which "collection" it came from though.

This is a clear based polish that is PACKED with black & white glitters with a few pink ones thrown in to resemble the colors in notebook paper.  The glitters themselves are variously sized, but I'd have liked to have seen a few blue ones in there too to go along with the horizontal lines.

china glaze sunsational keepin it teal funky fingers the notebook review swatches
For this swatch I layered 1 coat over top of China Glaze Keepin' It Teal.  There's SO much glitter that I didn't have to use multiple coats & didn't have any difficulty with application.

I did notice that the base of this glitter topper dried to kind of a satin finish so I added a top coat.

What are your favorite black & white glitters?

How I Keep My Blog Organized

$

Hey y'all!  Today I'm going to share some of my organizational tips with you.  I didn't write any of this out in advance, so I'm kinda drafting this as I go.  So, please excuse any ADD moments in this post. I'll sort of be walking you through the process of how a blog post (of mine) goes from start to finish, but I'll be jumping all over.

blog organization

There's no set rules on how to blog.  You can be as organized or dis-organized as you want to be.  If you want to blog, do it how YOU want to do it.  Not how someone else says you have/need to.  This is just how I do it and what I've found to help me stay on top of everything and be organized while doing so.

blog organization

These are just a few of the things that help me do just that.  I have several SD cards for my camera's, in fact this is just a smaller sized spare one that I have.  I used to keep my pictures on my desktop until I got a bad virus and lost EVERYTHING.  Since then, I've started keeping everything on flash(thumb) drives.  One is dedicated to everything nail polish while the other is for everything else.  I'm actually looking into getting an external hard drive because one of these drives is about full.  Both of these items, flash drives & SD cards can always be found easily online or in stores.  I always look for a deal online or during Black Friday deals.  In fact, I usually tend to stock up around the BF holiday shopping.

Having something external gives me the flexibility to do things on my desktop & move over to my laptop if/when needed without having to transfer everything.  It also makes it easy for those times when I've already edited the pics and just need to type the posts, but I have swatches to get done.  I can just take the drive into the office, plug it into the desktop, and swatch while I'm working on the blog.

I'm always dragging this notebook back & forth from the office to the living room.  I use this to take notes while doing swatches or testing products out.  I used to just use random sheets of paper just to note how many coats & polish names, but I was constantly losing where I put those at.  With this notebook I don't have to worry.  I make a note of the brand & collection name, then list each shade, amount of coats used, and any color/application notes for each one.  If it's a nail art design, I just list each shade used & kinda give it a nickname.

Then when I edit the pictures I have information I need so that I can name each file while saving & I mark each one with a + sign as I go.  That way, I can have everything in reach when I go to add the info to my spreadsheet and type up the blog posts.  Once I'm done, I just cross everything out so that I know it's completed.

I used to make notes with a pen, but I noticed it would sorta bleed through and I couldn't always see on the other side when I'd use my pencil to make marks for each coat of polish I applied.  Plus, using a pencil makes it easier to erase things if needed.  I have them everywhere now and even bought an electric sharpener for myself and the kiddo to use.

blog organization
Once everything is completed with the actual post I'll either leave it as a draft or go ahead and schedule the post.  Because I'm a thrifty person, I make my own "calendar".  This is actually one I found online for free, and downloaded.  I had some extra plastic portfolio/folders with the 2 pockets & fasteners from purchasing school supplies.  Once the calendar was printed I just punched holes to insert it into the fasteners & use paper clips to separate the previous months from current/future.  Having the pockets helps me keep track of any info that companies might have sent with their products.

Having this in front to look at, rather than just my posts info on Blogger, helps me know when I have empty days to get posts done for.  Because I can schedule everything pretty much in advance, I can move things around if I need to because I write in post titles with a pencil.  This is about as "ahead of the game" as I've been in a while.  I'm trying to get ahead enough that I can take breaks from doing stuff if I feel like it without feeling bad for not having any content to post.  At one point last year I didn't have to actually do anything for about 2 months because I had everything done way in advance and it felt great.

The smallest notebook is something I use to keep up with my stats.  It's not something I actually focus too much on, but I think it feels nice to know what works.

There are also a few things that aren't pictured that I use to help once the post is completed.
  • IFTTT - This is a HUGE lifesaver.  While you can do SO much with this one site I do the following: Blog posts automatically post to Twitter/Facebook/Tumblr, Anything I post on Instagram automatically posts to Twitter, anything I post in Instagram with #TrailerHoodChic automatically posts to my FB page, and anything I post on my FB page posts to Twitter.
  • Photofy - While there's a TON of photography app's out there, this is the one I'm currently using.  I have the free version and like the options to add to/edit posts.  It also helps resize my swatch photo's for me to post onto instagram without cropping half of everything out of the shot.
  • Latergramme - This is another HUGE lifesaver.  I can use this app to schedule instagram posts in advance.  Then I don't forget to share things.  I just go ahead and set everything up & when the time comes it alerts me.  I just click on the alert and it loads Instagram with everything I've already typed in.

That's about all I can think of for now.  Any questions?  How do you stay organized?

China Glaze Surfin' For Boys

Hey y'all!  This beauty I'm going to show you today is from the 2012 Summer Neon collection.  While shopping after the Atlanta Nail Meetup, this just happened to jump into my basket. :x I dunno HOW that happened.  I blame my neon obsession.

china glaze summer neon surfin for boys review swatches

For these pics I only needed 2 coats, plus top coat.

china glaze summer neon surfin for boys review swatches
This is a BRIGHT coral, of the pink/orange variety, neon with a subtle fuchsia shimmer.

As with most neon's, this dries to a matte finish and needs top coat to look its best.

What's your favorite neon shade?

Color Club Call Of The Disco Ball

Hey y'all!  Today I have yet another polish I purchased at the Atlanta Nail Meetup earlier this year.  This is Call Of The Disco Ball from the Pastel Neon Remix collection, which are all glow in the dark glitter polishes.

color club pastel neon remix call of the disco ball review swatches

For these swatches I used 3 coats alone, plus top coat.

color club pastel neon remix call of the disco ball review swatches
This is a super sheer peach jelly glow in the dark base that is packed with what looks (to me) like a mixture of holographic and opalescent glitters.

color club pastel neon remix call of the disco ball review swatches
Because of the sheerness I'd suggest layering this over either a white or peach base. I've done it, but you'll have to wait for that post :p

And now for the glow in the dark pics....

color club pastel neon remix call of the disco ball review swatches

These shots were taken with my cell phone & was unusually difficult.  The glow that the camera caught seemed to fade fast, but not to the naked eye.  Also, you can see that it looks more green on the nail and more yellow in the bottle.

I had to be fast with the camera so I had the kiddo turn the light on & off for me when needed.  Thankfully he didn't mind helping out because he thought the glowing was cool.

What are your favorites from this collection?  I'm kinda wishing now that I'd grabbed a few more.

China Glaze Flip Flop Fantasy & a comparison

Hey y'all!  Today I have one of the shades from the 2010 Poolside collection.  I hadn't quite started blogging yet, I don't think, when this came out.  This is one of many polishes that I picked up while shopping after the Atlanta Nail Meetup back in April.

I also have a comparison, so keep reading to see what it is...

china glaze poolside flip flop fantasy review swatches
I needed 3 coats for full opacity with this beautiful bright/neon peach cream.  Like most neon polishes, this dries matte so it needs top coat, IMO.

china glaze poolside flip flop fantasy review swatches
I think this would benefit more from being layered over a white base.  Less of this polish would be used/needed to even things out.

china glaze poolside flip flop fantasy review swatches
I think this was originally a different shade when this collection released, but I love it just the way it is.

And now for the comparison....

china glaze poolside flip flop fantasy review swatches fresh paint guava
One of these is Flip Flop Fantasy and the other is Fresh Paint Guava.

I purchased Guava because I thought that it would be a dupe.  However when I had the opportunity to get FFF, I went for it.  Now I'm glad I did.  They're just slightly different enough for me.

china glaze poolside flip flop fantasy review swatches fresh paint guava
FFF is more of a true peach while Guava is a peachy coral.  The difference is subtle, but it's there...especially for us polish addicts.

Do you own either or both of these?  Can you tell which is which without knowing?

Be sure to keep an eye out for an upcoming nail art post using both of these!

Peachy Coral Neon Gradient Leopard Nails

Hey y'all!  I have had a strange leopard print obsession lately when it comes to doing my nails.  I think it's because this is super easy and looks great with a neon base.  Especially for the summer.  So if you want to see what I used, keep reading.......

peach coral gradient leopard print fresh paint guava china glaze surfin for the boys flip flop fantasy color club call of the disco ball

This is the first time in a LONG time that my nails have actually matched my toes.  It's not exact, but I do have one of these shades currently on my toes.

peach coral gradient leopard print fresh paint guava china glaze surfin for the boys flip flop fantasy color club call of the disco ball

For this mani, I started off with a white base and a couple coats of China Glaze Flip Flop Fantasy.

peach coral gradient leopard print fresh paint guava china glaze surfin for the boys flip flop fantasy color club call of the disco ball
Once that dried, I sponged on a gradient of FFF, Fresh Paint Guava, and China Glaze Surfin' For  Boys.  On the accent nail, I just applied Color Club Call Of The Disco Ball over top of FFF.

peach coral gradient leopard print fresh paint guava china glaze surfin for the boys flip flop fantasy color club call of the disco ball
Then, using black acrylic paint and my dotting tool, I made some random leopard print designs on the rest of the nails before applying a top coat.

This is SO bright, and the gradient is so subtle that it looks like the light is hitting it differently.  In fact, this almost looks all pink if the sun hits it just right.

What do y'all think?

Hey y'all!  I'm going to attempt to keep todays post short & sweet.  Wet N Wild recently changed the bottle style of their lowest priced polishes....and let me just say that I'm not a fan.  The handle is not comfortable to hold at all.  That being said, I'm going to go straight to the polish.

This is 2 coats plus top coat.

Putting On Airs is what I consider a sky blue.  It's a pale and slightly dusty blue cream.

Hey y'all!  Today I finally have swatches of something I was lucky enough to get for my birthday back in November.  I was shocked when I walked into Sally's and they still had a bottle.  Even more so when I walked into another one the next weekend and they had one too!

orly sparkle mirrorball swatches review
I've worn this before, but I'm just now getting a chance to swatch it.  Of course I had to take a macro bottle shot with my phone.  Because HOLO!

orly sparkle mirrorball swatches review
This is a silver linear holo with holo glitters.  It can look different shades of silver depending on lighting.

orly sparkle mirrorball swatches review

I only needed 2 coats, and the coat of Seche Vite did nothing to change the effect.

orly sparkle mirrorball swatches review
The holo effect isn't as strong as the other silver holo's that I own, but I still love it...and it's definitely noticeable.  Then the glitter gives it just an extra bit of sparkle that I love without adding any extra texture.

Of course I had to grab a few nail macro shots as well.

I believe that this was part of the holiday collection last year and was super hard for lots of people to find.

Hey y'all!  Boy do I have a beauty to share with y'all today!  This purchase was the result of trying to find a true red linear holo.  While it's not 100% what I was looking for, I still LOVE it.  Keep reading to find out more.

I took a TON of pictures of this beauty, so lets get started....

The Alchemist is part of the WitchEE Collection.

It's a stunning squishy berry-ish red linear holographic polish with a slight pink flash.  I only needed 2 coats before adding a coat of seche.

With flash.
When I used the flash on my camera, it looked more true red.  So lighting will, as always, affect how you perceive the coloring to be.

Now for the cell phone macro shots....

The formula & application on this was excellent.  No issues at all.  I've had it on my toes for 2 weeks now and sadly it's almost time for another pedicure.  I'll definitely be wearing this a LOT this football season.

Hey y'all!  This is one of the last polishes from my Atlanta Nail Meetup purchase back in April.  Since the Girl About Town collection released in 2013, I've wanted this polish.  Sadly, the formula has changed and this isn't the gorgeous, original, flakie version.

The Uptown looks like grape soda mixed with gold, blue, & fuschia shimmer.

For these pics I only needed 2 coats before applying Seche.

My bottle was a little thick, so I applied a little thinner once I was done with swatches.

Hey y'all!  Today's post is going to be FULL of pics.  I took so many that I couldn't cut any more without feeling like I showed this in its full glory.  So, there's a good variety of shots.

darling diva polish red friday review swatches

I was recently looking for a true red linear holo & got a TON of suggestions from a Facebook group that I'm in.  One of which was from Darling Diva Polish.  So while browsing the shop, I came across the "Last Call" section and found Red Friday.  Then, of course I noticed that the proceeds from the sale of this particular find go to the DAV (Disabled American Veterans).  As soon as I saw that, I HAD to have it.  It was like my dad, who was a disabled veteran, was "talking" to me.

Boy am I glad I found this beauty too.  It's a beautiful cherry red, with a slight pink & copper flash, linear holo.  All of these pictures are taken in my light box, unless otherwise noted.

I only needed 2 coats for full opacity before adding Seche to lock it in.

I recently wore this on my nails, at the suggestion of the kiddo, for 2 straight weeks with only one spot that chipped off.  I was totally amazed because holo's tend to chip much faster on me.

LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS!!!

And of course I went a little crazy with the macro lens, here's some of those....sadly I can't remember what the lighting situation was on these, but if you notice my skin looking quite bright it was in my lightbox.  If my skin looks more yellow, it was just under my desk lamp.

Hey y'all!  Today I have 5 of the back to school collection from SinfulColors to share.  The ones you'll see below are some of the demi-matte's, there are 9 available.  So lets get right to it.

sinful colors a class act swatch review
Demi-matte means these aren't that fully flat matte that we're used to.  To me they're more of like a rubbery type matte.  To show how the finish is, I did not use top coat with any of these.

Blackboard - 3 coats - This is a demi-matte chalkboard black.  The formula is sheer and kinda jelly-ish.  It's like a perfectly clean chalkboard at the beginning of the year.

Chalk It Up - 2 coats - This is a demi-matte pistachio green.  The formula is pretty opaque.  It's like a pastel yellow/green piece of sidewalk chalk.

Truth or Lavendare - 2 coats - This is a demi-matte creamy lavender.  It definitely reminds me of purple sidewalk chalk.

Whiteboard - 3 coats - This is a demi-matte, chalk white.  The formula is kinda streaky, but it ends up looking ok.  It looks like a white dry erase board.

Overall these are pretty awesome.  The dry time, though I didn't actually time it, was pretty even with normal matte polishes.  I'll have the other demi-matte's from this collection listed below in case you wish to check them out.

A-Crush: Soft baby blue in a unique demi-matte finish
Hazed: Subdued violet with a demi-matte finish
Pink Break: Demi-matte peachy-pink

Hey y'all!  I've been on an indie kick lately, so when KBShimmer had a sale recently I jumped on it.  I was only able to get 2 pretties, so lets go ahead and get to the one I have to share with y'all today.

kbshimmer shade shifter swatch
Because I wasn't able to get that gorgeous duochrome Starbucks cup, I had to get this.  It is very appropriately named.

kbshimmer shade shifter swatch
Shade Shifter is more multi-chrome than duo-chrome.  I saw more of a purple/blue shift, but it can also shift to other shades.

kbshimmer shade shifter swatch
The formula is pretty sheer, so I layered it over a black base.  One coat would be enough, but I went with two before applying a coat of Seche.

kbshimmer shade shifter swatch
As you'll see in a bit, I noticed that it looked more like a deep blue metallic when held away from light and more purple when closer to the light.

kbshimmer shade shifter swatch
It's super shimmery metallic looking and I absolutely LOVE it.  I'm so happy that I grabbed this beauty.

Choo-Choo Choose You is part of the Fall 2014 All Aboard Collection.  It's like a deep purply/gray taupe sheer base with golden microshimmer.  The shimmer is almost a greenish gold.

Because of the sheerness, I'd suggest layering this over a black or purple base.  Maybe even a gray.  For these pics I used 3 coats before applying Seche Vite.

Zoya Focus Collection - Fall 2015

Hey y'all!  Today I have swatches of the Fall collection named Focus.  This half of the releases for this season are all cream finishes.  Super easy to apply and opaque in 1-2 coats.  As usual, I'll have the other collection up in a day or two, but for now lets get to the pics and info.

zoya focus review swatch

For all of these I applied 2 coats along with top coat.

zoya focus review swatch janel

zoya focus review swatch janel
Janel - Can be best described as a deep red cream that has a warm undertone.  I noted this as kind of a cranberry cream.  It's great for fall and to transition into the winter season.  Who am I kidding?  This shade is great year round.

zoya focus review swatch charli

zoya focus review swatch charli
Charli - Can be best described as a dusty taupe cream that has a hint of green.  I legit wrote down "medium gray cream with a slight green tinge".

zoya focus review swatch sia

zoya focus review swatch sia
Sia - Can be best described as a true, royal blue cream.  I noted this as being like a cobalt/royal blue.  I can't actually pick a fav, for once, but this is right up there on the top. I didn't experience any staining, but because of this being a highly pigmented blue Zoya does suggest using a base coat.  I'd suggest doubling up on a base coat.

zoya focus review swatch desiree

zoya focus review swatch desiree
Desiree - Can be best described as a classic sable brown cream that has just enough gray to keep it a cool tone.  To me this is slightly darker and more chocolate-y than sable, or at least the sable that I found when using Google for paint images of that shade.

zoya focus review swatch lidia

zoya focus review swatch lidia
Lidia - Can be best described as a rich eggplant cream that has a blackened purple base.  Pretty much what I wrote in my notes as well.  I did notice, and you probably won't unless you enlarge and REALLY look, while editing the pics that there were a few streaky spots.  It wasn't noticeable to the naked eye, so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

zoya focus review swatch hannah

zoya focus review swatch hannah
Hannah - Can be best described as a clear, classic red cream with a balanced (neutral) undertone.  It's a gorgeous basic red.  Unlike any of the other reds I own from Zoya, which is a lot of them.

Like I said, I honestly can't pick a favorite.  Though I don't feel like there needed to be 2 reds, I like them both.  I would have maybe swapped one for like a burnt orange or something.

These are now currently available on Zoya.com for $9ea. or $54 for the entire sampler set.  They also have mini sets currently available for $30.

Hey y'all!  Today I have the other half of the Zoya Fall collection which consists of 6 metallic shades.  I would like to apologize for not having this post up last week, the kiddo and I both felt horrible and I've just started feeling normal the past 2 days.  So, without further delay, lets get right to it.

zoya flair review swatch

These 6 metallic shades are opaque in just 2 coats (of course I added top coat to all the swatches) and easy to work with.  Then again, I've come to expect nothing less from Zoya.  The flare on some of these is so strong that it almost looks blurring.

zoya flair review swatch aggie

zoya flair review swatch aggie
Aggie - Can be best described as a gold holo flip liquid metal with bronze micro glitter.  I don't see anything "holo" about this, but I do see it has almost a multi-chrome effect to it which only slightly shows up on the nail.  It's more like a gold metallic with TONS of micro shimmer.  It's great alone, or over a black base (as shown on my ring finger, not that you can tell TOO much of a difference).

zoya flair review swatch cinnamon

zoya flair review swatch cinnamon
Cinnamon - Can be best described as a classic bronze liquid metal.  I noted this as a bronze/brown, so not too far off on the description.  It's a gorgeous fall color.

Ember - Can be best described as a deep, fiery red liquid metal with enough blue to be wearable for all skin tones.  This is absolutely my favorite of the entire fall collections and will be on my toes shortly.  It's not really showing up in my pics, but to my eyes it looked more like a burnt orange/red flame mixture.  Either way, it's amazeballz.

Estelle - Can be best described as a blue on blue liquid metal with a blackened base.  I noted this as a cobalt blue metallic.  Like Aggie, it has tons of those little micro shimmers.

Giada - Can be best described as a purple liquid metal with a hint of fuchsia pearl.  That's pretty much how I described it in my notes, other than I thought it was almost an eggplant purple metallic.

zoya flair review swatch tris

Tris - Can be best described as a blackened, brushed nickel liquid metal.  I noted this as a charcoal metallic.  With the name and color of this, it makes me think of the Divergent series.  If you have NO idea what I'm talking about, the character Tris is a member of the Abnegation faction.  This faction wears no color other than gray.

Be sure to check back tomorrow for a post of the collections used together. :D

These are now currently available on Zoya.com for $9ea. or $54 for the entire sampler set.  They also have mini sets.

Hey y'all!  Today I have gradients using both the Focus and the Flair collection from Zoya's fall release.  As usual, when 2 collections blend so well together I have to do gradients, so here we go!

For all of these I started out with the Focus shade as the base, then sponged the corresponding Flair shade onto the tips(or halfway up the nail).  Seche Vite was added once I was done.

It's hard for me to pick a favorite of these combo's.  Hanna & Aggie is kinda Wonder Woman-esque, just add Estelle in with it for a 3 shade gradient and it's perfect!
